BOSTON (AP) - Troy Bell scored eight of his 17 points during a 20-7 first-half closing run as Boston College defeated St. Francis, N.Y., 72-66 Saturday night despite 28 turnovers.
Xavier Singletary added 16 points, Jon Beerbohm scored a career-high 14 and Kenny Walls had 14 for the Eagles (5-2). BC handled the ball poorly for most of the game, but was able to win due to St. Francis' weak offensive play.
Steven Howard led St. Francis (3-2) with 16 points, all of them coming in the second half. Greg Nunn also added 16 points for the Terriers, who committed 18 turnovers of their own and shot just 39 percent.
Both teams struggled in the game's opening eight minutes before BC went on its game-breaking run over the closing 11:52 of the half en route to a 36-22 lead at intermission. During the spree, St. Francis was held scoreless for stretches of 6:48 and 4:03.
Bell ignited the run with a foul-line jumper and capped it by scoring six of the Eagles' final seven points.
St. Francis opened the second half by scoring the first seven points to cut the score to 36-29. The Terriers couldn't take advantage of BC's poor ballhandling, though, as their shooting percentage remained near 30 percent until they made a late run.
After St. Francis closed it to nine points, BC's lead fluctuated between nine and 15 points before the Terriers closed it to six points in the final minute.
