Tim McGowan enters his first season as a member of the Boston College men’s cross country and track & field coaching staff.
McGowan, who currently runs with the Boston Athletic Association high performance team, served as an assistant coach with the Hofstra men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams from 2019-20.
"Coach McGowan brings quality Division I experience at a Power Five school, where he led Penn State both on and off the field as a standout student-athlete and team captain,” Kerr said. “His time as a Division I coach, coupled with his recent professional career representing the historic B.A.A., gives Coach Mac a breadth of experience that will benefit all athletes in our program. We look forward to Coach Mac contributing in all aspects of our program and pushing the Eagles to new heights!"
While a student-athlete at Penn State from 2015-19, his name is listed throughout the program’s record book. McGowan holds the school record for the indoor 5,000m (13:46.49) and ranks among the program’s all-time performers in the indoor 3,000m (8:01.49) and outdoor 5,000m (13:54.20). He served as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater during the 2018-19 indoor and outdoor track seasons. McGowan began his collegiate career at Roger Williams University, setting five school records en route to becoming the first student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division I championships.
Originally from Northport, N.Y., McGowan was the New York State champion in the two-mile run and holds the Long Island record for the indoor mile.
He earned his bachelors degree in sociology, with a psychology minor, in 2019 from Penn State.
