George Porcha joined Coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee’s staff at Boston College in June of 2018. Porcha has been coaching both college and high school for over 23 years.
Porcha arrives at the Heights after two seasons as an assistant with the Ole Miss women’s program. While at Ole Miss, Porcha worked with the point guards.
Prior to Ole Miss, Porcha was the head boys’ basketball coach at Woodbridge Senior High School in Virginia. He helped run the highly successful Boo Williams Summer League and has worked within the AAU ranks.
Porcha, a native of Spring Valley, New York, was an associate head coach at West Virginia, where he first worked with Coach Mac. While at West Virginia, the team made four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The team posted a program best, 29-6, overall record in 2009-10. He worked He was also an assistant coach with the Virginia Tech women’s program.
In his most recent stint in the collegiate ranks, Porcha spent five years on staff at West Virginia and played an integral role for the Mountaineers. During his time at West Virginia WVU made four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament and recorded the best record in program history in 2009-10, finishing with a 29-6 mark. Porcha was involved in day-to-day activities for the program and primarily worked with the post players. Under his tutelage, Liz Repella and Takisha Granberry earned All-BIG EAST second team honors and he had a hand in the development Sarah Miles, who received the 2010 Big East Most Improved Player award.
Porcha is familiar with the ACC, as he was an assistant at Virginia Tech. Prior to his stint with the Hokies, he was the head girls’ basketball at T.C. Williams High School from 2004-07. While at T.C. Williams, Porcha led the team in 2006 to a second-place finish in the Northern Region and to the Virginia State Elite Eight tournament. He also was the head girls’ basketball coach at Washington-Lee High School in Virginia for five seasons, prior to his stint at T.C. Williams. He led the team to the regional playoffs each year while compiling a 62-43 record. He was named the 2001 National District Coach of the Year and coached seven players who went on to college playing careers.
Through his AAU coaching experience, Porcha has coached 20 players who have received Division 1 scholarships. For the past three years, he worked in the Boo Williams Summer League in Hampton, Va. His 2005 and 2006 teams were the Boo Williams NIKE Elite tournament champions with his 2007 team finishing second.
Porcha earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from New Haven. While at New Haven, he played safety on the football team. He garnered his master’s degree in education from George Mason in 2006.
Porcha and his wife Robyn have three sons George Jr., Jalen, and Quincy.
