Joe Brinkman is entering his first season as the new head men’s and women’s swimming & diving head coach at Boston College. Brinkman arrives at Boston College after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Notre Dame.
During his time with the Irish men’s and women’s swimming & diving program, Brinkman helped guide 24 All-American honorees. Additionally during that time, 40 ND swimmers advanced to the NCAA Championships and 39 school records were broken.
Prior to his time at Notre Dame, Brinkman spent two seasons on the men’s swimming coaching staff at Stanford. While with the Cardinal, Stanford captured a Pac-12 Championship and earned back-to-back top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championship - fifth in 2016-17 and seventh in 2017-18. Seventy-one Cardinal swimmers earned All-America accolades during Brinkman’s tenure.
During his time in Palo Alto, Brinkman also served as an assistant coach for the National Group at Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics three seasons. PASA, now known as the Alto Swim Club, is one of the top club programs in the nation, recognized as a USA Swimming Gold Medal Club.
Brinkman was a four-year letter winner and two-year team captain in swimming at the University of the Cumberlands. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2015. He was twice nominated for the NAIA Champion of Character award and received the Mid-South Conference Champion of Character award.
