Garrett Nickel enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Boston College softball program.
Nickel joins the staff from Howard University where he spent the past year as an assistant coach developing the pitching staff and recruiting for the Bison. He assisted the team to five MEAC Pitcher of the Week titles and three All-MEAC First Team pitchers as the combined staff lead the conference in all statistical pitching categories.Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Garrett Nickel to our coaching staff." Krysiak remarked. "Garrett's pitching expertise, ability to connect with athletes, and genuine passion for the game will be tremendous assets to our staff and players. His energy and enthusiasm align perfectly with Boston College's high-tempo style of play, and we are excited for the impact he will make as we continue to build the program."
Before Howard, Nickel served as a sport development manager for the Auckland Softball Association. He designed high performance programs while working with the New Zealand National Team and eight other North Island softball associations as well as playing with the Auckland premier team for two seasons.Â
Nickel also spent time at Stetson University and Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball each for a season. Under his leadership at Stetson, the circle achieved notable successes, including seven shutouts, 218 strikeouts, and wins over top programs such as Liberty, Delaware, and Maryland.
Nickel earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Sports Business and Management from Arizona State University while serving as an undergraduate assistant under Trisha Ford, joining the team during the 2021 NCAA Tournament run.
Adding to his playing career, Nickel represented the USA Men's Softball National Team as a pitcher, competing internationally for two years (2018-20), achieving a sixth-place finish in the WBSC World Championships.
