Michael George is in his second year as defensive analyst for football at Boston College. George was hired by head coach Bill O'Brien in 2024.
In 2024, George assisted with the defensive line at Boston College, working primarily with the defensive ends. Donovan Ezeiruaku led the nation with 16.5 sacks on his way to earning ACC Defensive Player of the Year and Consensus First-Team All-American honors. The Boston College defense gave up just 114.9 yards per game on the ground, ranking 22nd in the nation.
George came to the Heights after spending the 2023 XFL spring season with the Arlington Renegades alongside Boston College Defensive Coordinator, Tim Lewis. George served as a Quality Control Coach working with the defensive line and outside linebackers when the Renegades won the XFL Championship. George and Lewis had previously worked together with the St. Louis BattleHawks during the 2020 XFL spring season when the BattleHawks were in first place when the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID pandemic.
Between his stints in the XFL, George coached at Round Rock Westwood HS and Manor Senior HS both near Austin, Texas. George's defensive line was a big part of the playoff teams at Manor, as they were led by All-American defensive end, Princewill Umanmielen (Nebraska/Ole Miss), and All-District defensive tackle, Jayden Cofield (Texas Tech).
Prior to the XFL, George served in various coaching, recruiting, and operational roles. George served as the San Antonio Commanders' Operations/Equipment Assistant in 2019, Texas State University's Director of Player Personnel for three years (2016-2019), Ohio University's Director of Player Personnel & High School Relations for three years (2013-2016), and Ohio State University's Operations/Player Development Intern in 2009. George helped Texas State secure the top recruiting class in the Sun Belt Conference twice (2016 and 2017).
George served as Offensive Graduate Assistant working with Wide Receivers at Ohio University in 2010-2013, as Tight Ends Coach at Villanova University in 2008, as Offensive Line Intern at Ohio State University in 2006-2007, and as Tight Ends/H-Backs Coach at Washington University in St. Louis in 2005.
A native of Port Clinton, Ohio, George attended Washington University in St. Louis where he played football and track & field, earning All-Conference honors in both sports. He graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, and classics. He holds three master’s degrees: in mechanical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis (2006), in physics from Ohio State University (2008), and in recreation and sport pedagogy with a focus in coaching education from Ohio University (2013).
George is married to Lise Byars George, from Flagstaff, Arizona. The couple has a daughter, Soledad, and a son, Joaquín.
