Eagles hold second scrimmage inside Alumni Stadium on Saturday
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Football held their second controlled scrimmage of the summer on Saturday, their sixth consecutive day of practice and their fifteenth overall practice of training camp.Â
After practice, Gregory P. Barber '69 and Family Head Coach Bill O'Brien met with the media, along with safety Marcus Upton and wide receiver Javarius Green.Â
"Both sides of the ball made plays today. There's still some things to clean up, but I do believe we're a better football team," O'Brien said after practice.Â
Saturday's controlled scrimmage featured an active run game, with second-year backs Bo MacCormack III and Mekhi Dodd making the most of their opportunities.Â
"We have a great running back room … The biggest thing for us, receiver wise, is you have to block in order to get the ball. We have to do our job and do our part. People are counting on us to catch passes and make our blocks," the North Carolina transfer Green said to the media after practice.Â
The defense made an impact in disrupting the passing game on Saturday. Second-year linebacker Zacari Thomas made his mark all over the field, jumping in front of would-be completions and stuffing the run. Veteran safety KP Price added an interception during Saturday's scrimmage as well. His role in the secondary, both on and off the field, is not lost on younger players looking to carve out a role.Â
"Since I got recruited here, there have been guys I've looked up to. KP [Price] has been a leader since day one. The whole safeties room, we're just tight," Marcus Upton told the media after Saturday's scrimmage.Â
Saturday served as a great opportunity for newer Eagles to make their cases as to why they should be on the plane to Cincinnati just two weeks from today. True freshman quarterback Femi Babalola hit true freshman wide receiver DJ Biggins for a 30+ yard touchdown in stride down the sideline.Â
The Eagles have an off-day Sunday before they kick off their final week of training camp on Monday. Practices are closed to the public.Â
