The Eagles Open the USF Invitational With Split Results

Tampa, Fla. - The Boston College Softball team (5-7) defeated Marist in the opening game of the USF Invitational before falling to Saint Joesph's at USF Softball Stadium on Friday night.
Game 1 - BC 10 | MAR 7
The Eagles got on the board right away in the first inning with three runs with hits from Kae DePerio, Meghan Schouten and Janis Espinoza. BC wasn't done there. In the second, they tacked on three more to take a 6-0 lead over the Red Fox. Espinoza doubled in the third and advanced to third base. On the next batter she stole home. With her second hit of the game, Horn singled to left field to bring around Carly Bunnell.Â
In the bottom of the fourth Kelly Colleran continued her flow in the circle striking out three batters in a row on her way to a career high game.
In the top of the fifth Bunnell doubled to the outfield and was brought around by an error to extend the lead to 9-0 for the Eagles.
Marist would add five runs at the bottom of the fifth to extend the game. Â
Emma Knight capped the Eagles' scoring with a RBI single in the seventh, pushing the lead to 10-5. The Red Foxes answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half, but the late surge wasn't enough, as the Eagles held on for a 10-7 victory to open the tournament.
Game 2 - BC 2 | SJU 8
Each team scored in the first inning with an RBI single from Ptak to start the Eagles.Â
The Hawks would score five in the second and hold that lead for a majority of the game.
In the bottom of the fifth DePerio singled and then advanced to second. As she was stealing third, the catcher over threw the bag and DePerio took home to cut the deficit to 6-2.Â
The Hawks would add two more and take the game 8-2.
GAME NOTES
- Kelly Colleran took charge of the circle with a career high 13 strikeouts against Marist
- The staff combined for 14 strikeouts, highest in a single game since Belmont in 2022
- The Eagles tallied 15 hits, marking the program's highest single-game total since March 2019 in a victory over Central Michigan.
- Abby Ptak extended her hitting streak to nine games
- Kae DePerio has reached the base safely in seven consecutive games
