Eagles Fall in Overtime to Providence
January 16, 2026 | Men's Hockey
BC overturned a 3-1 deficit to force overtime
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Trailing 3-1 in the second period, the No. 12/13 Boston College men's hockey team scored two goals to tie the game to force overtime, but No. 14 Providence scored just 1:22 into the extra period to pick up a 4-3 overtime win. Brady Berard, Will Moore, and Teddy Stiga each scored for the Eagles. Andre Gasseau posted two assists. Louka Cloutier made 15 saves for BC.
Boston College moves to 11-7-1 overall and 7-4-0 in Hockey East while Providence is now 12-7-2 overall and 7-3-1 in league play.
The Eagles nearly opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes of the contest as Gasseau and James Hagens both had shots hit the pipe.
BC got on the board first midway through the first period as Berard tipped in a shot from close range. Aram Minnetian fired a shot from the blue line that went directly towards goal, but a tip and redirect from Berard put it past Providence goaltender Jack Parsons to put the Eagles in front.
The Friars wasted little time tying the game at 1-1, scoring just 12 seconds later after capitalizing on a turnover in the Boston College defensive zone. Providence took advantage of a BC turnover late in the period to go ahead 2-1 just seconds before the first intermission.
PC extended its lead to 3-1, but the Eagles responded with a goal just 36 seconds later to bring the deficit back to one. Gasseau found Stiga on the left side and the sophomore went top shelf after a nifty move to create separation away from the Providence defender.
The Eagles scored the equalizer midway through the final frame when Moore brought the puck towards the goal and jammed it home from close range.
Neither time could find the breakthrough in the final few minutes, sending the game to overtime. Providence scored early in overtime with their third unassisted goal of the night.
