Eagles Fall to Cal in Back-and-Forth Battle

Turbo Richard had a standout day for the Eagles, posting a career-high 171 rushing yards with two touchdowns, including a career-best 71-yard rush for a score.
Boston College got off to a strong start, marching down the field on the opening drive for 84 yards. Dylan Lonergan went 6-for-8 for 65 yards passing and capped off the drive with a seven-yard rushing touchdown.
The Eagles started off with great field position on their next drive after Omar Thornton intercepted a pass by Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele at the Cal 27. Richard produced a 27-yard touchdown run on the second play of the drive.
The Golden Bears responded with two touchdowns of their own, one in the first quarter and one in the second quarter, to tie the game at 14-14.
BC went into halftime with a 17-14 lead after Luca Lombardo kicked a career long 52-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with a huge stop on 4th and 1 from their own three-yard line to force a turnover on downs. Cal picked off Lonergan shortly after and returned the interception to the two-yard line. The Golden Bears took the lead with a rushing touchdown on the next play by Kendrick Raphael.
BC immediately answered on the next possession when Richard ran for a career-long 71-yard touchdown on the first play of the drive.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Eagles defense came up with their second turnover on downs of the frame.
The Golden Bears took the lead with 1:30 remaining when Mason Mini scored on a 51-yard receiving touchdown. The Eagles drove down the field and got down to the five-yard with just seconds remaining, but Cal intercepted the ball in the endzone to close out the game.
Boston College travels to Pitt next Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff at Acrisure Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network.
