
Eagles Downed by No. 3 Stanford on Thursday

STANFORD, Calif. – Boston College women's soccer dropped an ACC match to No. 3 Stanford by a 2-0 decision on Thursday evening at Maloney Field.
BC falls to 4-3-4 overall and 0-2-1 in the ACC while Stanford improves to 8-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.
The Cardinal opened the scoring midway through the first half when Jasmine Aikey capitalized on a rebound from an Eagles cross, placing the ball into the bottom corner to give Stanford a 1-0 lead.
BC started the second half strong, creating more offensive pressure and taking five shots, with one on target. Emily Mara was the only Eagle to register a shot on goal, forcing Stanford's goalkeeper, Caroline Birkel, to make a save.
In the 76th minute, Stanford extended its lead when Andrea Kitahata scored with a shot into the top left corner.
The Cardinal held the edge in shots on goal, 12-1 and on corner kicks, 6-0.
The Eagles will continue their three-game road trip with a match against California on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
