Eagles Win Home Opener To Remain Undefeated

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team (7-0, 0-0 ACC) opened their home campaign with a 3-0 win over Sacramento State (3-5, 0-0 Big Sky) Friday night at the Margot Connell Rec Center. The Eagles won by scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-16.
Averaging 3.0 blocks per set and ranking 12th nationally, the Eagles were on fire tonight, posting nine blocks as a team. Junior Audrey Ross led the Eagles with 16 kills, earning 17 points; she had six in the first set alone. Sophomore Lucy Mott led the offensive effort posting 15 assists; Aubrey Moore was close behind with 10. Junior Brooklyn Yelland held down the back row with 14 digs. Freshman Bella Ehrlich came to play tonight posting six blocks, three kills and seven points. Junior Sam Hoppes recorded five block assists and four kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Sacramento State started off the first set getting the first two points of the game. The Eagles came right back with two blocks from duos of Herrington and Roach and Herrington and Ehrlich. The score evened just four times until four back-to-back kills from Ross, and a pair from Layne pushed the Eagles ahead. Taking the lead, the Eagles ran with it as kills from Herrington, Hoppes and Ross extended the gap. A final block by Ehrlich and Hoppes sealed the deal. The Eagles took the first set 25-22.
Set 2: Boston College came right back in the second earning the first points as Aubrey Moore tallied her eighth ace of the season. Coming back from nothing, kills by Roach, Hoppes, Ehrlich (2), Layne and Herrington shortened the gap. After evening at 18, a 10-4 run from the Eagles took the lead. Four blocks from both Ehrlich and Hoppes gave BC a 3-0 run to end the set. The Eagles took the second set 25-21.
Set 3: The Eagles came out with a bang starting the third set with a 4-0 run featuring kills from Grace Milliken, Ross (2) and an ace from Yelland. Averaging 3.0 blocks per set, the Eagles were doing what they know best tonight. Kills from Herrington, Layne, Milliken and Ross pushed the Eagles ahead and sealed the deal for their first home match. The Eagles took the third set 25-16.

The Eagles remain at home as they are set to compete against Dartmouth Saturday Sept. 13 at 5:00 p.m. in the BC Invitational.
