Lacrosse Signs Five Year Old Aya Through Team Impact
May 03, 2025 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – Today, the Boston College women's lacrosse team announced a new team member, five-year-old Aya, through the non-profit Team IMPACT.
Watertown native Aya lives with cerebral palsy, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and cerebral visual impairment. After being matched with the team in February, it didn't take long for Aya and her teammates to consider each other "sisters." Aya was connected to the Eagles by Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization that has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams throughout the U.S. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
Aya joins a growing family of Team IMPACT matches at Boston College. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched 33 children onto rosters across Boston College Athletics, and the Eagles currently have Team IMPACT teammates signed to the women's lacrosse, co-ed skiing, men's golf, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's ice hockey,
football, women's basketball, field hockey, and women's volleyball rosters.
Aya was surrounded by her family, teammates, supporters, and fans as she committed to the Eagles through a special Signing Day ceremony, sponsored by Creative Office Resources, inside Conte Forum at Boston College. This Signing Day marks a heartfelt and symbolic "passing of the torch" in Team IMPACT's ongoing relationship with Boston College women's lacrosse. Before Aya, the team was matched with Aya's classmate Lucy, who also has cerebral palsy, and her twin sister, Sophie. Lucy and Sophie's time with the
BC women's lacrosse team embodied the very mission of Team IMPACT: fostering joy, support, and lasting connections. The Stiles sisters joined the program in April 2021 and celebrated their graduation from the team this winter with a special ceremony with the team and Aya, paving the way for Aya's exciting new journey. Both sisters were in attendance to celebrate the start of Aya's journey with the team. This Signing Day carries even more significance for two Team IMPACT employees, Chief
Revenue Officer Krissie Kelleher and Northeast Regional Executive Director Maura Ambrose, proud Boston College women's lacrosse alumni who both served as team captains during their tenure. Their return to witness Aya's signing marks a true full-circle moment, blending their past with their ongoing commitment to a bright future for this incredible program.
