BC will travel to face Dartmouth on Wednesday before hosting Notre Dame this weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (14-17, 5-10 ACC) won 3-1 in their return to home turf, taking down UMass Lowell (12-19, 4-5 America East) on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the first inning, with Patrick Roche leading off the day with a double to left-center, extending his hit-streak to ten games. Josiah Ragsdale picked him up one batter later, lining an RBI single into the outfield to make it 1-0. Jack Toomey singled to advance Ragsdale to third, and Kyle Wolff made it 2-0 on a sacrifice bunt to bring Ragsdale across.
Eric Schroeder delivered a lights-out start to open the game on the hill, striking out three over three shutout innings, with just three scattered hits and no walks issued. JD Ogden took over in the fourth and followed suit, striking out three over two scoreless frames to keep it at 2-0 in the fifth.
John Kwiatkowski assumed pitching duties in the sixth and preserved the shutout, allowing two scattered hits over two frames to keep it a 2-0 game in the seventh. With two down in the bottom of the seventh, Adam Magpoc added an insurance run after muscling an RBI single to shallow left field to score Ragsdale from third, making it 3-0 after seven full.
The visitors drew one back on a pair of singles and a fielder's choice RBI in the eighth, making it a 3-1 game. Joey Ryan came back out for the ninth and did his job, setting down the River Hawks in four batters to secure the win and pick up his team-leading fifth save of the season. JD Ogden earned the win for the Eagles (1-1).
Boston College will now turn to a road tilt at Dartmouth on Wednesday afternoon before hosting Notre Dame for an ACC series starting on Friday.
