Rowing Posts Strong Performance at Day 1 of Wheeler Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Boston College rowing team recorded a strong performance after day 1 of Lake Wheeler in both Round 1 and 2 Friday, April 25. The 3v8+ recorded a first place finish in Round 1, all boats posted top five performances through both rounds.
The morning was partly sunny with some clouds, there were flat conditions on the water with a high of 82F. Winds SSE 2 to 5 mph. Round 1 was between 9:30 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. while Round 2 began at 2:15 p.m. ending around
"We had such a good start to the weekend with some nice racing in the morning and adjustments in the afternoon," said head coach Grace Hollowell. "I'm proud of how all of our crews handled pressure and a high level of racing. Looking forward to finding another gear for our last round of racing in the morning!"
Round 1
The Third Varsity 8+ got the Eagles started in the third event of the day. Coxed by Chloe Reisinger with rowers Josie Hohenrieder, Jill Reichenbach, Olivia Hankey, Ella Davis, Charlotte Cochener, Reagan Rock, Eva Kelliher and Molly Welch, they finished the course with a first place time of 7:12.164, earning victories over Louisville and Georgetown. Their finish was over nine seconds ahead of Louisville, and 14 ahead of Georgetown.
The Second Varsity 4+, coxed by Kendra Schmidt with rowers Chloe Wilkinson, Ruby Barnett, Neave Anderson and Jo McTamney, recorded a time of 7:58.795, finishing above Louisville and Tulsa. The Eagles finished behind Boston University and Georgetown.
The First Varsity 4+, coxed by Lucy Fortner with rowers Quinn Baker, Amelia Sanger, Elizabeth Cobb and Claire Piacentini finished the course with a time of 7:42.324, less than 10 seconds behind first place Boston University. The Eagles finished ahead of Louisville, Tulsa and Rhode Island.
The Second Varsity 8+, a team of coxswain Caroline Jennings, and rowers Sierra Ross, Brooke Picazio, Leighton Smith, Jennie Sherwood, Lauren Craven, Leighton Davis, Erin Smith and Kirsten Thorn posted a time of 6:51.642, nearly three seconds ahead of Rhode Island. They finished less than 10 seconds behind first place Boston University.
The Varsity 8+, coxed by Madelyn Stevens with rowers Lauren Schramm, Rachele Papineau, Lauren Bauer, Lucy Barratt, Lauren Meath, Molly Devine, Grace Yi and Callaghan Nickerson, finished the course in a time of 6:48.896, over two seconds ahead of Georgetown. The Eagles finished about 13 seconds after first place Boston University.
Round 2
The afternoon's second round began at 2:15 p.m., with 3v8 featuring Boston College, Clemson and Louisville. BC's 3v8+ finished 7:08.439, 9 seconds ahead of Louisville and just eight seconds behind first place Clemson.
The second round 2v4+ was next as the Eagles finished the course in 7:49.594, five seconds ahead of Louisville and over 11 seconds ahead of Navy. The Eagles finished seven seconds behind Gonzaga and 18 seconds behind first place Clemson.
The 1v4+ finished the second round in a time of 7:43.377, nearly 20 seconds ahead of Villanova. The Eagles were less than five seconds behind Louisville, just nine seconds behind Gonzaga and 13 seconds behind Navy. The boat finished 19 seconds behind first place Clemson.
The Eagles 2v8+ recorded a time of 6:56.532, just before Villanova. The Eagles finished three seconds behind Navy, five seconds behind Louisville, less than 10 seconds behind Gonzaga and just under 12 seconds behind Clemson.
The final boat of the second round was BC's first varsity 8+ , recording a time of 6:53.991, three seconds ahead of Villanova and just five seconds behind Louisville. The Eagles' time was just eight seconds behind Navy and 13 seconds behind Gonzaga. Clemson recorded a first place time of 6:38.163, 15 seconds ahead of BC.

The afternoon's second round began at 2:15 p.m., with 3v8 featuring Boston College, Clemson and Louisville. BC's 3v8+ finished 7:08.439, 9 seconds ahead of Louisville and just eight seconds behind first place Clemson.
The second round 2v4+ was next as the Eagles finished the course in 7:49.594, five seconds ahead of Louisville and over 11 seconds ahead of Navy. The Eagles finished seven seconds behind Gonzaga and 18 seconds behind first place Clemson.
The 1v4+ finished the second round in a time of 7:43.377, nearly 20 seconds ahead of Villanova. The Eagles were less than five seconds behind Louisville, just nine seconds behind Gonzaga and 13 seconds behind Navy. The boat finished 19 seconds behind first place Clemson.
The Eagles 2v8+ recorded a time of 6:56.532, just before Villanova. The Eagles finished three seconds behind Navy, five seconds behind Louisville, less than 10 seconds behind Gonzaga and just under 12 seconds behind Clemson.
The final boat of the second round was BC's first varsity 8+ , recording a time of 6:53.991, three seconds ahead of Villanova and just five seconds behind Louisville. The Eagles' time was just eight seconds behind Navy and 13 seconds behind Gonzaga. Clemson recorded a first place time of 6:38.163, 15 seconds ahead of BC.
