BC will resume action Friday night vs. Miami to open weekend series
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (21-20, 9-12 ACC) walked off UMass Lowell (22-16-1, 13-5 MAAC) on Wednesday afternoon, winning 5-4 at Harrington Athletics Village for their fourth straight victory.
The River Hawks struck first in the second inning, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run to left field. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the third, with Josiah Ragsdale using his speed to turn a single into a double with two outs. Patrick Roche picked him up, lining a single through the right side to make it a 2-1 game after three full.
Kyle Kipp came back out for the fourth and faced the minimum, logging his fourth strikeout in as many innings and picking off a runner at first to finish off his second straight scoreless inning of work. The offense picked up Kipp in the fourth, with Vince Cimini lining a two-out single over the second baseman. Adam Magpoc followed it up by smoking a double to the right-center gap, scoring Cimini and tying the game at 2-2 after four full. Kipp continued his strong start in the fifth, setting down the side in order, completing his third straight scoreless frame, and finishing five innings of work with five strikeouts, one walk, and just two hits allowed.
Josiah Ragsdale walked in the fifth and later came around to score on a wild pitch, putting the Eagles in front 3-2. JD Ogden relieved Kipp with a 3-2 lead in the sixth and turned in two straight scoreless frames, striking out three over 1.2 innings to preserve the one-run lead into the seventh. Ogden cruised through the eighth, setting down the side in order and picking up his fourth strikeout to send the game to the ninth with BC leading 3-2.
The River Hawks brought two across in the top of the ninth to take a 4-3 lead, but the Eagles worked the bases loaded in the final frame, setting the table for a walk-off single from Vince Cimini to secure the 5-4 win and the fourth straight victory for Boston College.
The Eagles will now turn to an important weekend conference series against Miami, starting Friday afternoon at Harrington Athletics Village.
