May 30, 2026 | Baseball
Mudd posts career-high for strikeouts; Hendrickson and Toomey each hit a home run
Tyler Mudd had a career day on the mound, going 7.1 innings while fanning 10 batters, the first BC pitcher with double-digit strikeouts in a game this season. This marks the longest outing by a Boston College starting pitcher in the program's last four trips to the NCAA Tournament as well as the second-most strikeouts.
Carter Hendrickson went 2-for-4 from the plate with one home run and two RBI. Jack Toomey hit a home run for the second-straight game, while Julio Solier had two doubles for Boston College.
The Eagles opened the scoring just three batters into the game. Solier led things off with a double to center field after the Sharks' centerfielder was unable to make the play. In the next at-bat, Ty Mainolfi laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring Solier to third base before Nick Wang hit a single up the middle to score Solier and give BC a 1-0 lead.
Boston College tacked on three more runs in the second inning to push its lead to 4-0. After getting runners on first and second, the Eagles laid down back-to-back sacrifice bunts to score Luke Gallo from third base. Now with a runner on third, Hendrickson, on a full count, hit his second home run of the season to push the lead to four.
The offensive explosion continued into the fourth when the Eagles brought another three runs across the plate. BC loaded the bases before Solier was hit by a pitch to score a run to make it 5-0. Mainolfi hit a two-run single in the next at-bat to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
Toomey got in on the action in the fifth with a 375-foot solo shot to right field, his second home run in as many days, to push the lead to eight.
The Sharks got onto the board in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Joseph Durso hit a solo home run to left field.
LIU added three runs in the eighth off a three-run home run from Ryan Rivera. After getting two more batters on base with just one out in the inning, Kyle Kipp came on in relief and struck out two batters to get out of the jam and keep the Eagles in front by four.
Up Next: The Eagles will play tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. against the loser of the Georgia and Liberty game.
