BC Handed Loss by Louisville on Wednesday Night

Jayden Hastings tied a career-high nine rebounds in his second start of the season.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College was defeated by Louisville - 84-58 - on Wednesday night at Conte Forum. The Eagles dropped to 10-12 overall and 2-9 in ACC play. Donald Hand Jr. led the Eagles in scoring for the third consecutive game, finishing with 19 points on 3-8 from three-point territory. Jayden Hastings, making his second start of the season, tied his career-high with nine rebounds.Â

- Hastings entered the scoring column first for the Eagles with a second-chance finish.
- Louisville jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first seven minutes of action.
- Fred Payne and Chas Kelley III each energized the offense coming off the bench, draining back-to-back triples. Hastings added a put-back slam to cap off an 8-0 BC run. The Eagles cut the deficit to 19-14.Â
- Hand nailed a three-ball with 5:12 remaining in the half. Another 8-0 BC run narrowed the gap to seven points, 29-22.Â
- At the 3:14 mark, Hand knocked down his third three-pointer of the night, having scored eight of the Eagles' last 10 points. BC trailed 35-29.
- The Eagles were behind - 41-31 - heading into halftime.Â
- Joshua Beadle scored the opening basket of the second half.
- After missing their first shot of the half, the Eagles converted four of their next five.
- The Eagles trailed by 12 points - 57-45 - with 12 minutes left to play.
- At the 11:22 mark, Payne drained his second three-pointer. Louisville answered with a 6-0 run. BC fell behind 63-48.
- Payne found Hastings for a highlight alley-oop slam in the closing minutes of action.Â
- Today's game marked the 19th meeting between the two schools. Boston College moved to 8-11 all-time versus Louisville, snapping a four-game win streak over the Cardinals.Â
- Last year, BC swept the regular season series with the Cardinals. In 2022-23, the Eagles were 2-0 vs. UofL, winning in the regular season and in the opening round of the ACC Tournament.
- Earl Grant (2014-21) preceded current Louisville coach Pat Kelsey (2021-24) as head coach at the College of Charleston.Â
- Hastings made his second start of the season in place of Chad Venning, who missed tonight's game with a foot injury. He tied his career-high in rebounds in the game (nine).
- Hastings recorded two of BC's three blocks. It marked his ninth multi-block game this season.Â
- Hand was the lone Eagle in double figures, recording 19 points. Payne followed with nine points.Â
- Boston College heads on the road to battle Syracuse on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.Â
