Eagles Drop First Game on California Swing

Venning scored 13 second half points; McFarlane added 11
PALO ALTO, Calif. — Chad Venning scored 13 points and Roger McFarlane added 11 but it was not enough as Boston College dropped a 78-60 decision at Stanford on Wednesday night.
Venning scored all 13 of his points in the second half, connecting on 5-of-7 from the floor. McFarlane connected on three 3-pointers to go along with five rebounds.
The Eagles struggled with turnovers in the first half, committing 11 miscues which led to 12 points for the Cardinal. Â BC would trail 37-19 at the break.
BC continued to battle in the second half, getting as close as 14 points.

- BC committed five turnovers through the first four and a half minutes, but only trailed 7-6 at the first media break
- Stanford took a 12-6 lead, amidst an 8-0 run, but a Dion Brown layup ended the scoreless stretchÂ
- The run extended to 12-2 with the Cardinal leading 16-8 with 11:30 left in the period
- Trailing 23-15, BC saw its deficit grow to 15 - 30-15 - after seven straight by Stanford
- After BC cut it to 30-19, another Stanford 7-0 push made it 37-19 at the break
- Both teams combined to make 6-of-11 to start the second half
- Roger McFarlane had five and Chad Venning six to start the scoring in the period
- Stanford extended its lead to 57-33 with just under 13 minutes to play
- A 6-0 BC run, capped by a 3-pointer by Luka Toews, made it 59-41
- A free throw from Elijah Strong made it 68-53 with 5:02 to go
- The Eagles would get as close as 14 - 74-60 - after a McFarlane 3-pointer
- BC shot 50% (16-32) from the floor in the second half
- Luka Toews tallied five points and two assists in 11 minutes; he was +8 during his time on the floor
- Chad Venning tallied three blocked shots, bringing his season total to 44.Â
- Donald Hand Jr. saw his streak of consecutive games in double-digits end at eight games
- Boston College will wrap up its two-game Western swing on Saturday at Cal. Â
