Donald Hand Jr. Earns Third ACC Player of the Week Award

The sophomore guard becomes only the second player in program history to win the ACC's top weekly player award three times in the same season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Donald Hand Jr. earned his third ACC Player of the Week honor, it was announced today by the conference office.  Hand averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Boston College.  The sophomore led the Eagles in scoring in both wins this week.Â
He joins Jared Dudley as the only other Boston College player to garner ACC weekly conference honors three times in the same season. Â During the 2006-07 season, Dudley earned the ACC's top weekly player award on three occasions en route to being named the conference's Player of the Year.
Last time out against Georgia Tech on Feb. 22, Hand led all scorers with 20 points in a 69-54 win over the Yellow Jackets. Â It was his ninth game this season with at least 20 points. Â Hand is one of eight players in the ACC to have at least nine 20-point performances in 2024-25.
The Virginia Beach, Va. product connected on 7-of-14 shots from the floor against Georgia Tech, including four 3-pointers.  He also added seven rebounds and remains one of four players in the ACC to rank among the top 20 in scoring (16.6, 8th) and rebounding (6.3, 16th), joining joining Stanford's Maxime Raynaud, Florida State's Malique Ewin, and Duke's Cooper Flagg.  Hand shares this week's ACC award with Duke's Flagg. For the 2024-25 season, only Hand, Raynaud, and Flagg have won ACC Player of the Week at least three times.
Against Virginia Tech on Feb. 18, Hand led all scorers with 16 points, including 11 in the second half as the Eagles set a program record for lowest points allowed by an ACC opponent (36). Â The sophomore guard connected on 7-of-18 from the floor in 34 minutes against the Hokies.
Hand leads BC in both scoring (16.6) and rebounding (6.3) and ranks among the league leaders in free throw percentage (4th, .865) and 3-pointers made (5th, 2.37/g).Â
Earlier this season on Dec. 30, history was made as Hand and his father became the first father-son duo to each earn ACC Player of the Week honors in their respective careers. Donald Hand Sr. was the recipient of the ACC's top weekly player award on Jan. 31, 2000 while starring at Virginia. Â The conference began its weekly awards program during the 1972-73 season.
Since BC joined the ACC prior to the 2005-06 season, an Eagle has been selected ACC Player of the Week on 20 occasions, with 10 different players having captured the award at least once.
