
Women's Basketball Fends Off SMU

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball got back in the win column with an 87-78 win over SMU on Sunday afternoon inside Conte Forum.
The Eagles improved to 14-15 and 5-11 in the ACC with two games left in the regular season. SMU drops to 10-18 and 2-14 in the league.
Dontavia Waggoner carded a career-high 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting with five rebounds (four offensive). The senior did her damage in the first half with 17 points.
T'yana Todd scored 21 points with eight coming at the line and all six field goals inside the arc. Todd scored all 15 of her second-half points in the fourth quarter.
Teya Sidberry scored 12 points and seven off the glass while hitting eight at the charity stripe. Andrea Daley rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points and seven rebounds. Kaylah Ivey dished out eight assists with zero turnovers in 33 minutes.
After holding an eight-point lead at the break, BC stretched its lead to 21 late in the third capped off by a pair of Waggoner free throws. The defense forced the Mustangs to miss 10 of their first 12-shot attempts to start the half. SMUÂ Â cut the lead to 15 at the end of the third period.
SMU made things interesting in the fourth, as it sliced the deficit to 70-63 with 3:35 left in the game. The Eagles were able to pull away for the win, thanks to their shooting at the free-throw line with a 14-of-16 showing.
BC held a 19-14 edge at the end of the first quarter following a jumper from Nene Ndiaye. The Eagles pushed their lead to double-digits in the second after a Waggoner field goal and stayed ahead of SMU going into the break.
The Eagles scored 24 points off turnovers and 22 points in transition while shooting 50 percent from the field and 23-of-26 from the line.
BC hosts Virginia Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the home finale inside Conte Forum.
