BC had a historic night, allowing the fewest points in an ACC game in program history
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College took down Virginia Tech - 54-36 - on Tuesday night at Conte Forum. With tonight's victory, the Eagles improved to 11-15 overall and 3-12 in ACC play. Donald Hand Jr. led the Eagles in scoring for the 15th game this season, finishing with a game-high 16 points. Chad Venning and Jayden Hastings each added eight points respectively from the frontcourt.Â
Virginia Tech's 36 points were the fewest scored against the Eagles in an ACC game in program history, overtaking the previous record of 44.Â

- Chas Kelley III drove the ball to the rim and put the Eagles in the scoring column first.Â
- At the 13:45 mark, Hand drained a mid-range jumper to end a three-minute scoring drought. BC led 7-6.
- Virginia Tech endured a drought for over nine minutes, missing 13 consecutive shots during the cold spell. Meanwhile, BC took control - 17-6 - with a 12-0 run.Â
- With 3:34 remaining in the first half, Hand buried the first three-pointer by either side.Â
- Altogether, the Eagles constructed a 19-2 run in the first half over an 11-minute span. BC extended its lead to 24-8.
- The Eagles held a commanding lead - 26-11 - heading into halftime.Â
- Virginia Tech's 11 points marked the lowest first half point total scored against the Eagles in the Shot Clock Era (beginning in 1985).Â
- Roger McFarlane scored the first basket of the second half for the Eagles.Â
- Hand knocked down his second triple of the game at the 16:44 mark. With the basket, he notched his seventh consecutive game in double figures and 22nd this season.
- BC held Virginia Tech scoreless for over six minutes, which allowed the Eagles to go on a 9-0 run. The Eagles captured a 22-point lead (46-24), their largest of the game.Â
- The Eagles maintained their lead through the final stretch of action.Â
- Hastings recorded his 11th multi-block game of the season.
- Hastings posted a team-high five rebounds.Â
- McFarlane and Joshua Beadle each recorded three steals in the game. It tied Beadle's career high.Â
- Today's game marked the 38th meeting between the two schools.
- Boston College moved to 24-14 all-time vs. Virginia Tech. In ACC play, the Eagles are 17-12 versus the Hokies. The Eagles are 15-4 against the Hokies all-time in home games.
- BC has won six of the last seven over VT, dating back to Jan. 25, 2020.
- From 2000-04, both teams were members of the Big East. Boston College was 6-1 against Virginia Tech in Big East play.
- Boston College caps off a two-game homestand against Georgia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Conte Forum.
