
Women's Basketball Suffers Narrow Defeat at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Boston College women's basketball suffered a narrow 80-75 setback at Stanford on Sunday evening inside Maples Pavilion.
BC falls to 13-15 on the season and 4-11 in the league, while the Cardinal improve to 13-12 and 5-9 in the conference.
Kaylah Ivey registered a team and season-high 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field with six coming from 3-point land. Teya Sidberry turned in 13 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Dontavia Waggoner totaled 10 points to round out the leading scorers.
T'yana Todd hit the 1,000-point milestone in the first quarter, while she finished with eight points. She is the first player since 2015-16 to reach the mark before their senior season and is the 35th player in school history to score 1k.Â
BC trailed by 10 early in the fourth quarter before climbing its way back to a one-possession game after a pair of Sidberry free throws. The Eagles stayed within striking distance despite Stanford going up by five.
With 6.9 seconds left, the Eagles looked to take advantage of Stanford's missed opportunities at the line, as they had a chance to tie up the contest trailing by three. BC turned the ball over, leading to the Cardinal sealing the game at the line.
The Eagles faced an early 18-9 deficit in the first quarter after Stanford opened the game, shooting 60 percent from the floor. BC responded with a run of its own, putting together a 12-2 surge over the last 3:50 of the frame. Savannah Samuel started and finished the run with seven of the points en route to a 21-20 after the first.
BC scored the first six points of the second to jump out to a seven-point lead. However, the Cardinal fought back by tying the game up, before the two foes went back and forth until the hosts took a five-point lead into the break.
The Cardinal broke a 48-48 tie midway through the third to take a commanding lead, stretching their lead to as much as eight. BC was able to bring the gap to six going into the fourth.
BC returns to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against SMU inside Conte Forum.
