Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Finale to Northeastern

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women's basketball fell 73-67 to Northeastern in the final non-conference game of the season on Friday afternoon in Conte Forum.
BC drops to 4-10 on the season, and the Huskies improve to 4-6.
Amirah Anderson led BC with 15 points and six rebounds, while Athena Tomlinson hit multiple three-pointers en route to nine points with five rebounds and four assists. Teionni McDaniel sparked momentum throughout the contest for the Eagles with nine points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Kayla Rolph rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting.
A Northeastern free throw opened the scoring of the first period before Ava McGee answered with a jumper to even the game at 2-2. The Huskies held a narrow 22-18Â advantage at the end of the first after shooting 56.3 percent in the opening frame. The Eagles used 9-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe to overcome a slow start offense.Â
The second period stayed tight, with Erin Houpt hitting a free throw and Jocelyne Grier and Kiera Edmonds scoring layups off Husky turnovers at 3:16 and 1:25, helping Boston College take a 33-32 lead into halftime. The defense improved by limiting the visitors to 27.8 percent shooting from the field in the period.Â
After a Rolph trifecta gave BC a 36-32 advantage in the third, Northeastern put together an 18-3 run thanks to six straight baskets to capture a 50-39 lead. The Eagles responded with a 9-0 spurt over the final 4:23 of the third to slice the gap to one possession, 50-48. Edmonds sparked the run with four points and was capped off by a McDaniel layup.
Northeastern regained momentum early in the fourth period, stretching its lead back to double digits by 14 with 6:09 left in the game. BC closed to within five thanks to a Rolph 3-pointer, but the Huskies sealed the win at the line.Â
Boston College returns to action on Monday, Dec. 29, hosting UNC at 8:00 p.m. in Conte Forum.
