Thomas’ Last-Second Goal Lifts Eagles Past UConn, 2–1
November 08, 2025 | Women's Hockey
STORRS, Conn. — Freshman forward Ava Thomas scored the game-winning goal with just three seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Boston College women's hockey team to a 2–1 victory over UConn on Saturday afternoon at Toscano Family Ice Forum.
The Eagles opened the scoring at 8:26 of the first period when sophomore defender Olivia Maffeo jumped into the rush and fired home her first goal of the season off a feed from Sammy Taber and Maxim Tremblay.
UConn controlled much of the second period, outshooting BC 19–5, but Grace Campbell stood tall, turning aside every attempt to preserve the 1–0 lead. The Huskies broke through at 11:20 of the third, tying the game on a goal from Martha Mobarak.
Boston College responded in dramatic fashion. With time winding down, Thomas found open space in the slot and buried the game-winner at 19:57, finishing a setup from Jade Arnone and Cailin Flynn to seal the road victory. The goal marked Thomas' team-leading seventh of the season and her first collegiate game-winner.
Campbell was outstanding in net, stopping 47 of 48 shots, including 31 through the first two periods. Despite being outshot 48–24, the Eagles' defensive unit blocked 25 shots to help secure the win.
