No. 18 Eagles Shut Out No. 12 UMass, 4-0

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 18/16 Boston College men's hockey team completed its weekend sweep over No. 12/13 UMass with a 4-0 win on Saturday evening at the Mullins Center. Jake Sondreal lit the lamp twice while Paul Davey and Ryan Conmy each scored once. Conmy added two assists to finish with three points and Drew Fortescue also chipped in two assists. Louka Cloutiermade 32 saves, including 13, to earn the shutout.

Boston College improves to 6-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in Hockey East while UMass is now 7-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in league play.

Cloutier was forced into a big stop early in the first when UMass intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and had a quick chance at goal but the sophomore turned away the shot by Vaclav Nestrasil.

Neither team was able to find the opener over the first 20 minutes, with the Eagles holding a 12-11 shots advantage during the opening frame.

Davey put the Eagles in front late in the second period with a one-timer from the right faceoff circle. Will Vote swung the puck around to Radivojevic at the blue line and Radivojevic found an open Davey on the right side for the quick shot from the senior.

The Boston College offense exploded for three goals in the third period. The Eagles doubled their lead early in the third frame when Sondreal tipped and redirected a shot from Fortescue.

Sondreal tallied his second of the period just seconds after the Eagles killed off another penalty. Dean Letourneau wrapped the puck around the net and found Sondreal open on the other side for the tap-in to push the lead to three.

Conmy joined in on the goal scoring with an empty netter from center ice after Fortescue forced a UMass turnover and flicked the puck into the neutral zone for Conmy to catch and put down for a quick shot towards the empty goal.

Cloutier made 13 stops during the final 20 minutes to keep the Minutemen off the board, including four saves during a UMass power playÂ
