A three-goal spurt from the Mustangs after the Eagles went down a player proved to be the difference
DALLAS, Texas – Holding a 1-0 halftime lead, the Boston College men's soccer team went down a player early in the second half and suffered a 3-2 defeat to SMU in ACC play on Saturday evening at Washburne Stadium.
Johannes Hanken Tjostheim scored two goals for the Eagles, while Russell Brown had two assists and Aidan Farwell had one. Andrej Borak finished with four saves.
BC falls to 6-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in league play while SMU improves to 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the ACC.
Borak kept the Mustangs off the board with a save off a free kick from 25 yards out in the 15th minute.
The Eagles opened the scoring with under eight minutes to go in the first half when Hanken Tjostheim scored his eighth goal of the season. Farwell found Brown at the top of the box, who made the one-touch pass into the box for Hanken Tjostheim to curl into the top corner of the far post.
SMU took the lead in the second half with two goals just two minutes apart, both through Stephan Soghomonian. Soghomonian added another penalty kick in the 73rd minute to push the SMU lead to two.
Boston College got back into the match with a second goal through Hanken Tjostheim in the 82nd minute. Brown had an attempt on goal that was parried away by the SMU goalkeeper, but the rebound fell to Hankan Tjostheim to put home to cut the deficit to one.
BC returns to the Newton Soccer Field next Friday to take on Notre Dame for its final ACC game of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
