
Eagles Drop Five Set ACC Opener to Duke

Eagles early advantage is not enough to claim ACC opener
DURHAM, N.C.-- The Boston College Volleyball team fell in the ACC opener, dropping a five-setter to Duke on the road with set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, and 12-15.
The Eagles were led by Audrey Ross who notched 17 kills on a .214 hitting percentage followed by Halle Schroder who also tallied 17 kills hitting .160 percent, tacking on 12 digs, notching her sixth double-double of the season. Libero Morgan Riddle added 24 digs, a career-high, while setter Sophia Lambros logged her fourth double-double of the season with 21 assists and 13 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: The Eagles held an early 4-1 lead in the first set, but Duke was able to climb back to take a four point advantage. The Eagles responded on a 6-1 run to reclaim the lead 10-9. Both teams went on runs to tie the set up four times until Boston College was able to take a three point lead late in the first set, 23-20. The set closed out on a Schroder kill, BC claimed the set 25-22.
Set 2: The Blue Devils gained an early 4-2 lead in set two, the Eagles were able to tie things at 4-4, both teams exchanged points twice, followed by two point runs on both sides. The set remained evenly matched until Duke called a timeout after a Riddle ace. The Blue Devils were able to close out the set on two, three point runs, 25-22
Set 3: BC and Duke jockeyed for position for the first half of the third set. Neither team could create some separation until late, as the Eagles used a 7-2 run to take a 22-17 lead. The Blue Devils tried to climb back, but BC took the set 25-21 closing out the set on a Sam Hoppes kill.
Set 4: Duke opened up the fourth set to an early 7-4 lead, and continued to grow the margin. The Eagles responded late on a four point run on Duke's set point. The Eagles closed the set within five, 25-20.
Set 5: The Eagles held a narrow lead for the beginning portion of the best to 15 decider. Duke answered on a four point run to take a two-point advantage. BC answered, tying the Blue Devils up twice, before a Duke run gained the advantage. BC was able to fight back within one, 11-10, until the Blue Devils finished the set 15-12.

The Eagles return to action Sunday to face-off UNC in Chapel Hill at 1:00 p.m.
