Eagles Drop Three Setter to San Diego

BC closes out the LSU Invitational falling to San Diego
BATON ROUGE, La.-- The Boston College Volleyball team fell to San Diego in three sets Friday afternoon in the Eagles final match of the LSU invitational. The Eagles finished the weekend, 1-2, and 7-5 on the season.Â
Halle Schroder led the match with 18 kills adding on one service ace and four digs. The defense was led by Morgan Riddle adding 13 digs, while Julia Haggerty contributed five of the Eagles 10 blocks. Jane Petrie and Sophia Lambros guided the offense adding 31 assists, with Petrie leading with 20.Â
SET 1: The two teams opened the set trading leads. The Eagles were able to take a commanding lead on scoring seven of the next eight points, 14-9. San Diego responded on a three point run until back-to-back points by Schroder. USD answered by adding three more points. The teams traded points until BC went on its own three point run, causing a USD timeout. The Toreros went on a six point run taking a late lead in the first set. A set point was reached twice until USD claimed the first set, 25-23. Â
SET 2: Cornelia Roach opened the second set with a solo block, USD locked the score three times until the Toreros claimed a three point lead. The Eagles and Toreros traded points until USD added three more points, BC responded on its own run, until San Diego did the same, 22-17. The Eagles pushed back claiming four of the next five points, but it was not enough to claim the second set. USD captured the second set, 25-21. Â
SET 3: In the deciding set, USD held a 7-2 advantage. The Eagles were able to close the gap to three points on kills by Ross, Schroder, and Grace Milliken. BC let up three of the next four points on errors to spread the Toreros lead to seven. The Eagles responded, capturing five of the next eight points, 15-10.The Eagles were never able to close the margin within five. San Diego claimed the final set.   Â

The Eagles continue on the road, kicking-off ACC play against Duke Friday, Sept. 27 at 4:00 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
