Eagles Split the Day at the Classic City Clash

The Eagles kicked off the Classic City Clash defeating Jacksonville 3-1 and falling to Georgia in four sets
ATHENS, Ga.--Â The Boston College volleyball team split the opening day at the Classic City Clash, topping Jacksonville in four sets before falling to host school Georgia, 3-1. The Eagles end the evening with a 6-2 overall record ahead of taking on Utah Valley tomorrow afternoon to cap off the tournament.Â
Halle Schroder tallied a match-high 16 kills in the win over the Dolphins while Audrey Ross followed closely behind with 15. Anna Herrington hit an error-free .467 clip with seven kills on 15 attempts, also adding two blocks and three digs. Jane Petrie guided the offense adding 23 assists, and five digs.Â
Later in the day Julia Haggerty led the Eagles with 12 kills hitting a .550 clip, also adding two blocks against Georgia. Schroder followed shortly behind with a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs. Sophia Lambros and Petrie combined for 19 assists over the four-set match, with Lambros achieving her 2,000 career assist.Â
VS Jacksonville
Set 1- The teams opened up the match evenly, trading off to find a 6-6 score. The Dolphins responded on a 14-10 lead before BC answered as the score found itself tied five different times before a three point run by BC closed out set one, 25-23.
Set 2- The second set opened evenly, finding the score tied 5-5. An Eagle 4-0 point run pushed the Eagles 8-5 the Dolphins answered, tallying four strain points to tie up the set 10-10. The Eagles earned six of the final nine points of the set but it wasn't enough to erase the deficit as Jacksonville earned the second set, 25-22.Â
Set 3- BC found their footing and jumped to a 5-3 lead before doubles that with a 5-0 run, pushing the lead to 10-3. The Eagles went on to dominate the set, closing it out 25-11.
Set 4- The deciding set would prove to be as evenly-contested as the entire match as the score found itself tied four different times before a four-point run by BC. Jacksonville added one point to make the score 10-7 before a 5-1 Dolphin point run tied the match 13-13. Both teams traded four point runs leaving the score tied at 19. Jacksonville called a timeout after a Ross solo block but back-to-back service aces from Aubrey Moore and a Ross kill finalized the win for the eagles.
VS Georgia
Set 1- BC registered the first points of the set, before falling victim to a 13-1 Bulldogs scoring run. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set, but the Eagles couldn't erase the deficit.Â
Set 2- The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 scoring run to open the second set before allowing back-to-back Bulldog scoring runs to tie the set 7-7. BC went up three, but Georgia responded on a 4-0 scoring run. The Eagles were able to respond tying the set up at 14 thanks to kills from Anna Herrington and a Julia Haggerty block. After points were traded between teams UGA added three straight points before a block from Roach. The Bulldogs closed out the set in their favor, 25-21l
Set 3- The Eagles fell to an early 5-2 deficit before multiple 3-0 runs put BC within one. After a media timeout the Eagles secured four unanswered points tying the set on a Roach ace. The score found itself tied six different times before a BC secured the set, 26-24. Â
Set 4- The eventful deciding set began with another series of point trades before Georgia rallied for three straight to take a 8-3 lead, before BC responded taking three unanswered points. The Eagles were able to secure the lead on another 3-0 run, 12-11 before a Bulldog timeout. Georgia answered quickly adding six of the next eight points to regain the lead at 17-14. The Bulldogs tallied the final two points to take the set and match, 25-20.  Â
