Eagles Host Annual Red Bandanna Game to Honor Welles Crowther
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 17 Boston College (2-2) looks to bounce back this weekend as they face the University of Maine (4-1) at home on Friday at 5 p.m. in the annual Red Bandanna Game and Providence College (2-2) on the road on Sunday at 1 p.m. After dropping two close games during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to No. 4 Maryland and No. 1 Northwestern, the Maroon and Gold look to get back on track.Â
ABOUT THE RED BANDANNA GAME
Each year, Boston College honors Welles Crowther '99 with its annual Red Bandanna Game. The red bandanna was a defining feature used to identify Crowther, who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Crowther, known to survivors as "The Man in the Red Bandanna" is credited with saving at least one dozen people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Crowther played lacrosse at BC and worked as an equities trader in New York, on the 104th floor of the South Tower, following graduation.
The Eagles enter Friday's matchup tied for the most shots (67) in the ACC through four games, and have recorded the second most shots on goal (39). BC also ranks fifth in the nation in penalty corners (39) and penalty corners per game (9.75). Graduate student Peyton Hale is tied for the second most goals in the conference (3), while sophomore Madelieve Drion co-leads the conference in assists (3).Â
The Black Bears have won four straight, outscoring their opponents 11-4, and look to get their first win over a top 20 team since 2021. The matchup between the Eagles and Black Bears dates back to 1987, with the Eagles holding a 14-2 advantage, with five straight victories.
The Friars enter Sunday's contest 2-2 on the year, and look to get their first victory over the Eagles since 2008. BC is 26-13 all-time vs. the Friars dating back to 1987, and have won 13 straight.Â
Friday's game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, while Sunday's matchup vs. Providence will be streamed live on FloSports.
