Leary: 2nd-most HR in program history, becomes 92nd Eagle to get drafted
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Cameron Leary was selected by the Oakland Athletics with the 286th pick in the 10th round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday night, becoming the 92nd Eagle in program history to hear their name called.
Owner of the second-most career home runs in program history, Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) spent the last three seasons as an offensive force in the middle of the Boston College lineup. The Bethpage, New York product slugged 16 homers as a sophomore in 2022, good for the sixth-most in a single season in program history. The lefty slugger, and recipient of the program's Franklin Hitter of the Year award, led the team in virtually every offensive category in 2024, including HR, RBI, OPS, SLG%, total bases, runs scored, and stolen bases. Leary has experience defending all three outfield positions, and with a 1.001 OPS, 15 home runs, and 23 stolen bases in 2024, landed on the ABCA All-Northeast Second Team. Cameron Leary sits alone in the BC record books as the only player to record at least 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season, and the only player to hit at least 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in his career. He becomes the fourth Eagle to get drafted by the Athletics, and the first since John Gorman, taken in the 2016 MLB Draft.
The 2024 MLB Draft will continue with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday.
