CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Four Boston College lacrosse players were invited to the U.S. Women's U20 Training Camp held June 19-21 at the USA Headquarters in Sparks, Md.Â
Shea Baker, Lydia Colasante, Shea Dolce and Emma LoPinto represent the Eagles on a list showcasing 32 players from around the country.Â
The quartet helped Boston College cap off a magical 20-3 season that featured a second straight ACC championship and a second national title in four seasons.Â
Baker played in all 23 games with a personal-high five starts. The sophomore turned in career highs across the board, scoring nine times with 24 draw controls, 13 caused turnovers, and 17 ground balls. She started the last five games of the season, while her best performance came in the NCAA Quarterfinals win over Michigan with three caused turnovers and a personal-high five ground balls.
Colasante was one of the top freshmen in the country, where she started in 18 of 23 games and helped BC become one of the top defenses in the nation. The defender for BC finished with 11 caused turnovers, 24 ground balls and five draw controls. She was named to the ACC-All Freshman Team. Colasante had a performance of two caused turnovers and four ground balls in the ACC semifinal win against Notre Dame. She also had four ground balls in the NCAA semifinals against Syracuse.Â
Dolce finished the season first in the ACC in goals-against average (8.75) and save percentage (.470), finishing sixth and 16th, respectively in the nation. She was named the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year before being named to the ACC All-Tournament Team. The sophomore made 21 saves during Championship Weekend, highlighted by the nine saves and the kick save with under a minute left in the win over Northwestern.Â
LoPinto finished the season third with 58 goals, second in assists with 28 and third with 86 points. She was the only player on the team with at least 50 goals and 20 assists, while adding 19 ground balls. She was a second-team All-ACC selection and third-team IWLCA All-American. LoPinto was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and finished the season first among all juniors with 273 points.
Following the June training camp, a total of 22 players (the maximum final roster size permitted by World Lacrosse) will be invited to a training camp at Northwestern University from July 18-20. The team will then have one final brief camp at Stanford University in August before leading to Hong Kong, China for the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship from August 15-24.
Formerly, a U19 event, World Lacrosse raised the age group to U20 after the 2019 championship in Peterborough, Ontario. Amonte Hiller was the head coach for the 2019 team and helped lead the U.S. to its fifth gold medal in the event. The U.S won the event in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2019. Australia won the inaugural championship in 1995 and Canada won
in 2015 with the U.S. finishing as the runner-up at those two events.
