Tavella to Race at 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials

Senior All-American will compete in the opening round of the 3,000m steeplechase on Monday, June 24
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Emma Tavella will return to historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. as she was selected to be among the field of the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials.
The first round of the 3,000m steeplechase will be contested on Monday, June 24 at 8:59 p.m. ET (5:59 p.m. local). Â Live coverage of the U.S. Olympic Trials that day can be seen on NBC as well as the streaming platform Peacock.
Tavella is coming off an All-American performance at the 2024 NCAA Championship on June 8, finishing 11th in the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase. Â The senior from Danville, Calif. crossed the finish line in a time of 9:55.89. Â Tavella entered the field with the ninth-fastest time of the 2024 outdoor season (9:53.51).Â
Former Eagles great and current assistant coach Katherine Mitchell - now competing professionally for New Balance Boston - will be among the field in the 800m. Mitchell posted a qualifying time of 2:01.13. The opening heats of the 800m are Friday, June 21 at 7:17 p.m. ET (4:17 p.m. local). The 800m trials will air live on USA Network and stream on Peacock.
