Eagles will travel to Notre Dame for three-game series starting Friday night
BRIGHTON, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (20-16, 7-11) swept the season series against UConn (17-18. 4-2) on Wednesday, winning the home half of the split 8-2 after taking game one in Storrs, 7-4 on March 26th.
The Huskies opened the game with a two-spot in the top of the first, but the Eagles wasted no time in responding. With two down in the bottom of the second, Sam McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) started the rally with an RBI single to left field. Adam Magpoc (Torrance, Ca.) followed with one of his own, tying the game at two in the second.
The Eagles' rally extended into the third inning, with Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.) giving Boston College a 3-2 lead on a run-scoring single, a lead they would not give up. With two outs and the bases loaded, Sam McNulty deposited a perfect bunt between the third baseman and pitcher, bringing home two on the bunt single. McNulty went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, raising his average to .306 on the year.
Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.) continued his production in the middle of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI double in the fourth inning. Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) brought Wolff home on a run-scoring single later that inning.
Beck Milner (Park City, Ut.) started the game as the Eagles' designated hitter, but finished the game on the mound, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings to end it. Milner entered the game to pitch in the eighth, inducing a 5-4-3 double play on his first throw to end the inning. Remaining in the lineup, Milner led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to left center, coming around to score later that inning. Milner stayed in the game at pitcher for the ninth, allowing just one hit to complete a unique final three innings.
Travis Lane (Georgetown, Mass.) continues to take control of his outings, tossing another scoreless 1-2-3 inning of relief on Wednesday. Lane's outing against UConn marked his sixth straight scoreless outing, allowing zero hits and just two walks over that stretch. Brian McMonagle (Moorestown, N.J.) threw two shutout innings of relief and earned the win (3) for the Eagles.
Winners of two of their last three, the Eagles will travel to Notre Dame for a three-game conference series starting this Friday night.
