CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Top-ranked Boston College plays its final regular season game a road contest Saturday at Merrimack. The Eagles wrapped up a Hockey East Regular Season Championship with a sweep of New Hampshire last weekend and will be the top-seed in the conference tournament beginning with a quarterfinal match-up at home on March 16. The Eagles have won 12 consecutive Hockey East match-ups, sit atop the league standings at 17-3-1 are a point ahead in the Hockey East standings with a game in hand over Boston University. BC's 12-game win streak in league play is the first of 10 or more in Hockey East since the Eagles won 12 in a row in 2012-13. BC players claimed three of four major monthly awards from Hockey East as Cutter Gauthier (Player of the Month), Ryan Leonard (Rookie) and Eamon Powell (Defenseman) earned the honors.
HOCKEY EAST SUCCESS
• Boston College won its 18th Hockey East Regular Season Championship. The Eagles also finished the 2020-21 season atop the league standings, but the league voted to not recognize a regular season champion due to the Covid-19 impacted schedule.
• The Eagles are 19-3-1 in Hockey East and have three games left on their schedule.
• BC's 19 league wins are the most since claiming the second of back-to-back regular season titles with a 19-7-1 record in 2011-12. BC last won 20 games in 2010-11.
• BC exceeded 20 wins the first three seasons of Hockey East before the league schedule was reduced following the 1986-87 season.
TRULY SPECIAL TEAMS
• Boston College's penalty kill is the top-ranked unit in the nation at 90.1%.
• BC also ranks first in Hockey East on the power play, clicking at 27.9%.
• The PP ranks third nationally and has converted in all but nine games this season.
• BC has scored 26 power play goals over its last 21 games, including a season-high four PPG against New Hampshire (2/9).
BC-MERRIMACK SERIES
• Saturday marks the 113th matchup of all-time between the schools.
• Boston College leads the all-time series, 78-27-7, including a 63-25-7 mark in Hockey East regular season contests.
• The Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak to the Warriors with a come-from-behind, 6-4 win at Merrimack (1/19). Cutter Gauthier scored a hat trick in the game on his birthday.
• BC swept the weekend series with a 6-2 win at home two days later. Jack Malone scored twice and defenseman Aidan Hreschuk led all players with three points on a goal and two assists.
