Eagles Advance with Win over Clemson
March 06, 2024 | Women's Basketball
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Survive and advance. That's what Boston College women's basketball did with a 85-72 triumph over No. 12 seed Clemson on Wednesday afternoon at the Greensboro Coliseum in the first round of the Ally ACC Women's Basketball Tournament.Â
BC advances to the second round to face fifth-seeded Louisville tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.Â
T'yana Todd was one of three players in double figures, firing in a career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting and five trifectas. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Teya Sidberry registered 20 points (12 in the second half) and grabbed 10 rebounds. Dontavia Waggoner posted 18 points, five off the glass, two assists and one steal. Andrea Daley was a spark off the bench with 13 points on five baskets. Kaylah Ivey dished her way to a second straight game with a game-high 12 assists.Â
The Eagles started fast out of the gate, shooting 10-of-19 from the field en route to a 23-13 first quarter lead. BC put together a 12-2 run over the last five minutes of the frame. Eleven of the points were scored off turnovers while the defense forced Clemson into 38.5 percent shooting and seven miscues.Â
When it looked like the Tigers were about to go on a run, the Eagles answered. Clemson got to within six on multiple occasions, but BC scored on the following possessions. Six straight points with BC up seven after a Waggoner layup stretched the lead to 13. Clemson ended the half scoring the final four points to narrow the gap to 42-34.Â
BC's offense continued to click in the third quarter, growing the lead to as much as 17 after a JoJo Lacey 3-pointer late in the period.Â
Clemson made things interesting midway through the fourth, coming back to within four. However, Sidberry went on a personal 7-2 run including five straight at one point to get the lead back to nine. The Eagles pulled away as they stretched the lead into double digits, claiming an ACC Tournament win for the second straight season.Â
BC forced Clemson into 20 turnovers for 26 points while hitting seven 3-pointers (hit zero in first matchup). The Eagles also shot 14-of-19 from the line and turned the ball over just 10 times.Â
