
Eagles Suffer Heartbreaker to No. 5 seed Louisville in ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Boston College women's basketball suffered a heartbreaking 58-55 setback to No. 5 seed Louisville in the second round of the Ally ACC Women's Basketball Tournament held in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Coliseum.Â
BC falls to 14-19 overall while the Cardinals will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 5 seed Louisville on Friday morning.Â
Teya Sidberry turned in another stellar outing, scoring a game-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting with five rebounds and two assists.Â
Dontavia Waggoner registered 12 points with seven rebounds and tied a career-high with six steals. T'yana Todd totaled 12 points for the Eagles, rounding out the leading scorers.Â
After trailing by as much as nine in the third quarter, the Eagles put together an 11-0 run over the final 5:10 of the period to capture a 44-42 advantage at the end of the third. Boston College held Louisville scoreless for just over six minutes that stretched into the fourth.Â
The Cardinals regained the lead, going up by five, 51-46. JoJo Lacey's layup sparked what was a 9-1 run to give BC a 55-52 advantage. One of two Todd trifectas broke the 52-52 tie to cap off the spurt.Â
However, UofL scored the final six points of the contest over the last 1:14 of the quarter. BC had a chance to tie but the 3-point attempt fell short.Â
BC went up 13-9 in the opening period after back-to-back baskets by Todd and Andrea Daley. Louisville hit a flurry of 3-pointers to go ahead by one possession. It was 20-18 in the Cardinals' favor going into the second after hitting a field goal.
Louisville was leading 29-22 before Sidberry scored five of what was a 7-0 spurt to tie up the contest in the second frame. The Cardinals went into the half up by four after hitting four consecutive at the stripe.Â
The Eagles forced 20 turnovers for 19 points and held a 32-24 edge in points in the paint.Â
Tip-Ins
- Sidberry finished the tournament averaging 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and shot 50 percent from the field.Â
- Todd averaged 18.0 points on 50 percent from the field, 70 percent from 3-point land, and hit all three of her foul shots. She also pulled down 2.5 rebounds and dished out 1.5 assists.Â
- Waggoner turned in 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals.Â
- Ivey turned in 17 assists to just 6 six turnovers in a total of 80 minutes played.
- Waggoner's six steals gives her 99 on the season and puts at 200 for her career. She's one of three players in school history with Ann Odoy (287; '84-88) and Marnelle Garraud (202; '18-21) with 200 career steals.Â
- Ivey's 191 assists in a season is the fourth most in a single season in program history and her 295 is 15th all-time.Â
