
NCAA No. 1 Overall Seed Eagles Heading to Providence

Hockey East Champs BC meet CCHA Champs Michigan Tech on Friday afternoon.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College men's hockey is heading to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed for the third time in program history. The Eagles (31-5-1) open at the Providence Regional on Friday, March 29 at 2 p.m. against Michigan Tech at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
BC was previously the No. 1 overall seed in 2005 and 2012; the team's fifth and most recent National Championship. The Hockey East regular season and tournament champions, embark on their 37th NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2021.
Under second-year head coach Greg Brown, the Eagles won their 12th Hockey East Tournament Championship and 18th Regular Season Championship. BC's 31 wins are the most since matching a program-record 33 and on top of a National Championship in 2012. Led by the NCAA's leading goal scorer Cutter Gauthier (35 goals), the Eagles have totaled 168 goals on the season; the most since scoring 175 in 2001, another National Championship season.
Boston College is 49-46 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles have won NCAA Championships in 1949, 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012 and have appeared in 25 Frozen Fours; most recently in 2016.
Joining BC and Michigan Tech, the CCHA Champions, in Providence are Wisconsin and defending National Champions Quinnipiac. The Eagles are 7-4 against Michigan Tech, including a 0-2 mark in the NCAA Tournament with match-ups in the 1956 National Semifinal and 1965 National Championship Game. The two teams last met on Jan. 5, 2018 in the Ice Vegas Invitational; a 4-3 win for the Huskies.
