Late Run in Seventh Inning Powers Eagles to Series Win

Eagles Sweep Syracuse in Double Header in ACC Home Opener
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.– The Boston College Softball team defeated Syracuse in both matches of the double header in its ACC home opener to improve to 20-8 on the season, and 3-2 in ACC play. To improve the Eagles home record to 7-0.Â
In the first match-up of the double header Abby Dunning led the Eagles, striking out 3 of the first 4 batters faced, striking out 11 batters on the day. Allowing just two walks, three hits, and one run.
The sole scoring of the game was in the bottom of the second. Darien McDonough got on base on an error and moved to second on a groundout. Gator Robinson put the Eagles on the board with her first career homerun giving BC a 2-0 lead. The Orange responded in the top of the seventh with one run, but it was not enough to match the Eagles.Â
The action continued into the second game of the day with Halie Pappion in the circle dishing out five strikeouts through seven innings of play.
The scoring started on an RBI single from Nicole Giery to put BC on the board, 1-0. The Eagles added one in the fourth. On a McDonough groundout, and Elisabeth Laviolette rounded the bases. The Orange responded in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer to tie the score. In the bottom of the seventh with one out on the board and runners on third and second. A Slike single brought Robinson through home plate, to close out the game.
 The Eagles return to action Sunday at 3:00 p.m. for the final match-up of the three game series against Syracuse at the Harrington Athletics Village.
