Game time and network clearances to be announced
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- For the first time since the 2017-18 season, Boston College will play in the postseason. Â The Eagles have earned a bid to participate in the 2024 National Invitation Tournament and will take on Providence. Â The matchup was announced live on Sunday night on ESPN2.
BC enters the 2024 postseason with a 19-15 overall record, finishing with a 8-12 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Â The Eagles have won four of their last five games and finished up play in the ACC Quarterfinals, falling 66-60 in overtime to Virginia on Thursday, March 14.
This marks the 13th all-time appearance for BC in the NIT. Â The Eagles, all-time, have compiled a 17-13 overall record - including a 5-3 mark in true road games - in the prestigious postseason tournament. Â In 1969, BC advanced to the NIT championship game in 1969 and the semifinals on three occasions. Â In its last NIT appearance on March 13, 2018, Boston College dropped a 79-62 decision at Western Kentucky.
Boston College is 50-62 all-time in the series with Providence. Â The Eagles and Friars first met on Jan. 24, 1946 at Boston Garden. Â The matchup in the NIT will be the 113th meeting between the two programs - tying with Holy Cross as BC's most common opponent. Â
In the last matchup between the two long-time rivals, Providence took a 100-95 overtime win at Conte Forum on Dec. 4, 2018.  This marks the second time the Friars and Eagles will meet in the NIT; PC downed BC, 75-58, on March 24, 1993.
