
Second Half Comeback Stalls versus Virginia

Quinten Post recorded his eighth double-double of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College fell to Virginia, 72-68, on Wednesday night at Conte Forum in the 29th all-time meeting between the two programs. BC fell to 15-13 overall and 6-11 in ACC play. Graduate student Quinten Post led the way for the Eagles with his eighth double-double of the season, recording 24 points and 10 rebounds. After trailing the entire first half, the Eagles gained the lead midway through the second half before Virginia pulled ahead.
FIRST HALF:
● Post scored the opening basket for the Eagles.
● At the 12:09 mark, Mason Madsen knocked down a three-pointer to end a BC scoring drought. The Eagles trailed 11-5.
● The Eagles found their rhythm on offense late in the half. With six minutes left, BC had made each of their last five shots and narrowed the gap to three. Virginia led 22-19.
● BC trailed 27-23 at halftime.
● Boston College shot 10-29 (34.5%) from the field, 2-11 (18.2%) from three-point range, and 1-4 (25.0%) from the free throw line in the first half.
● Virginia shot 11-27 (40.7%) from the field, 2-9 (22.2%) from three-point range, and 3-4 (75.0%) from the free throw line in the first half.
SECOND HALF:
● The Eagles started the second half on a strong note. On the team's first possession, Claudell Harris Jr. drained a triple from the right corner to trim the deficit to one point.
● At the 12:51 mark, Post found Devin McGlockton for a highlight alley-oop slam. The Eagles completed a 7-0 surge and gained their first lead of the game (40-39).
● After BC went ahead, both teams were connecting on offense. There were five subsequent lead changes leading up to the six-minute mark.
● Virginia pulled ahead by seven with five minutes remaining, but the Eagles made it a one-possession game heading into the final two minutes. BC trailed 66-63.
● With 0:29 to play, Madsen finished through contact in the paint and converted the and-one opportunity. BC faced a two-point deficit late in the contest.
● Boston College shot 14-29 (48.3%) from the field, 3-11 (27.3%) from three-point range,and 14-14 (100%) from the free throw line in the second half.
● Virginia shot 13-26 (50.0%) from the field, 6-12 (50.0%) from three-point range, and 13-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line in the second half.
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS:
● Boston College finished 24-58 (41.4%) from the field, 5-22 (22.7%) from three-point range, and 15-18 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
● Virginia finished 24-54 (44.4%) from the field, 8-21 (38.1%) from three-point range, and 16-22 (72.7%) from the free throw line.
● Three players finished in double figures for the Eagles: Post (24), Jaeden Zackery (12), and Madsen (10).
● Madsen finished in double figures for the seventh consecutive game. Zackery notched double figures for the seventh time in eight games.
● On top of his double-double, Post shot a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line and finished with a game-high two blocks.
● The Eagles finished with 10 points off turnovers, while Virginia only scored one.
● BC fell to 15-13 overall and 6-11 in ACC play after dropping their third straight game.
● The Eagles moved to 9-19 all-time vs. UVA, including a 6-6 mark at Conte Forum.
● The Eagles advanced to 10-5 at home, 2-5 in February, 11-6 in night games, and 10-8 on weekdays.
● Boston College is 14-11 all-time and 4-1 in ACC in games played on the February 28 calendar date.
WHAT'S NEXT:
● Boston College hosts Pittsburgh this Saturday, Mar. 2 on Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.
● BC holds a 22-37 all-time record versus Pittsburgh, including an 11-14 mark at home. This is the lone 2023-24 regular season meeting with the Panthers. Pittsburgh swept the season series last year.
