Nine-Run Eighth Inning Powers Eagles to Series Win
February 25, 2024 | Baseball
BC logs season-highs in hits, RBIs, and runs scored in 17-8 victory
After the Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) opened the doors for the Eagles' offense with a two-RBI single in the third.
The Eagles tacked on three more in the fourth inning, led off by a one-out RBI single from Sam McNulty (Cambridge, Mass.) Adam Magpoc (Torrance, Ca.), who made his first two career starts the last two days, followed up with an RBI single, and Patrick Roche (Milton, Mass.) laid down a textbook sacrifice bunt to bring home McNulty and push the lead to 5-2.
UTA and BC exchanged runs in the bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth, courtesy of a Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) sacrifice fly.
The Mavericks responded with a five-run sixth inning to retake the lead, but Boston College would go on to score eleven unanswered runs, thanks in large part to a nine-run outburst in the eighth inning, which went as follows:
- Cam Caraher single
- Sam McNulty double
- McNulty scores on throwing error
- Caraher scores on passed ball
- Adam Magpoc walk
- Patrick Roche single
- Nick Wang RBI single
- Kyle Wolff RBI double
- Cameron Leary two-RBI single
- Vince Cimini walk
- Parker Landwehr two-RBI double
- Cam Caraher bunt single
- Sam McNulty RBI sacrifice bunt
Michael Farinelli (New York, N.Y.) made his second start for the Eagles and went 4.2 innings, striking out three while allowing three earned runs. Jordan Fisse (Ridgewood, N.J.) earned his second win in as many outings (2-0), coming in to close out the seventh inning, striking out two over 1.1 scoreless frames.
Sam McNulty went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. His middle-infield companion Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, one RBI, and a stolen base (1).
Cam Caraher continued his strong weekend, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Nick Wang each logged two hits and three RBI in the win. Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.) had two doubles on the day with two RBI. Adam Magpoc went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in his second collegiate start.
Boston College logged new season-highs in hits (18), runs-batted-in (15), and runs scored (17) in the rubber match.
The Eagles will host Maine in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon.
