Tyler Mudd shines in relief and Eagles roll to 9-2 victory on Opening Day

Mudd threw five scoreless innings in relief and retired the last 15 in order
In the third, Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) logged the first long-ball of the 2024 campaign, roping a no-doubter 440 feet deep over the left field fence. The Buckeyes pulled one back in the bottom of the frame, but Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) answered promptly with a solo shot of his own. After a wild pitch made it 5-2, Parker Landwehr (Baltimore, Md.) launched the third home-run of the game for BC. Cohl Mercado (Ocean View, N.J.) and Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.) each added insurance in the same frame, which capped a four-run eighth for the Eagles.
West logged six strikeouts through his four innings of work and was relieved by his childhood teammate and lifelong friend, Tyler Mudd (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who delivered an absolute gem in his Birdball debut, tossing five no-hit innings, striking out five, and setting down the last 15 batters in order on his way to the win.
I thought we had an outstanding game plan against these guys, said pitching coach Ryan Forrest. "It really complemented what John West and Tyler Mudd are able to do…West was able to settle into a groove and was able to get it done…and Mudd coming in, being himself, filling the zone, mixing his pitches, good things are gonna happen. I just think we went out, had a good game plan, and guys executed. That's all you can ask for."
The Eagles will go back to work against Kansas State at Sloan Park on Saturday, at 2:00 ET.
