Teddy Stiga finished with one goal and one assist; James Hagens scored the game-winning goal in overtime
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's hockey team defended its home ice on Wednesday evening with a 2-1 overtime victory against UConn in midweek Hockey East action.
BC improves to 11-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in Hockey East, while UConn moves to 7-7-1 overall and 4-6-1 in league play.
Neither team was able to break the tie in the third, sending the game to overtime. After a save from Jacob Fowler (Melbourne, Fla.), Teddy Stiga (Sudbury, Mass.) passed the puck forward into the neutral zone for James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Hagens skated his way into the offensive zone, and fired a shot high and past UConn goaltender Callum Tong to seal the victory for BC.
The Eagles wasted little time opening the scoring, as Stiga tallied the opener just under six minutes into the contest. A pass from Drew Fortescue (Pearl River, N.Y.) took a fortunate deflection off a UConn defender that fell to Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.). Perreault immediately found Stiga in front of the net for the tap in.
The Huskies tied it up midway through the second with a short-handed goal from Ryan Tattle.
Fowler made 23 saves on the night to pick up the win. Tung made 41 saves for the Huskies.
