Eagles Skate to 3-3 Tie Against UMass Lowell

BC trailed 3-1 in the second but scored twice in the final few minutes to tie the game going into the third
LOWELL, Mass. – The third-ranked Boston College men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie against No. 14 UMass Lowell in Hockey East action on Friday evening at the Tsongas Center. Neither team could find the breakthrough in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. The River Hawks picked up the extra point in the standings after winning the shootout, 2-1.
BC moves to 11-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in Hockey East, while UMass Lowell is now 10-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in league play.
Trailing 3-1 late in the second period, the Eagles scored twice less than one minute apart to tie the game at 3-3. Mike Posma (Pomona, N.Y.) got BC back into the game, finishing off a feed from Jake Sondreal (Woodbury, Minn.).
James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) set up Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) moments later with a no-look pass from behind the net before Perreault skated his way around the goaltender to slot home and tie the game.
After the River Hawks took an early 1-0 lead, the Eagles responded just minutes later to tie it at 1-1. Oskar Jellvik (Täby, Sweden) forced a turnover in the UMass Lowell defensive zone along the boards behind the goal. Jellvik quickly found Andre Gasseau (Garden Grove, Calif.) for a slap shot that flew past the goaltender and into the back of the net.
The River Hawks had tallied the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead early in the second frame.
The BC penalty kill came up big, killing off five UMass Lowell power plays, including a 7:19 River Hawk power play that began towards the end of the first period and went into the second period.
Jacob Fowler (Melbourne, Fla.) made 32 saves, while Beni Halasz made 32 stops for the River Hawks.
