Eagles Drop ACC/SEC Challenge Matchup to South Carolina

Venning and Hand finished in double figures
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College came up short against South Carolina - 73-51 - in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Tuesday night at Conte Forum. BC fell to 6-3 overall and 4-2 at home. Chad Venning led the way for the Eagles with 12 points and six rebounds. Donald Hand Jr. added 10 points and a team-high seven boards. Venning and Hand were the only two Eagles to notch double figures.Â

- BC jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but South Carolina countered with an 8-0 run.
- Venning commanded the offense through the first eight minutes of action, scoring the first eight points for the Eagles.Â
- Jayden Hastings brought an immediate spark off the bench. At the 11:03 mark, Hastings battled for an offensive rebound and finished a second-chance dunk. BC trailed 11-10.
- South Carolina attacked on both ends of the floor throughout the half. The Gamecocks extended their lead to double digits - 33-17 - with a 14-2 scoring run.Â
- With just over a minute left, Hand cracked the scoring column from the foul line, ending a six-minute scoring drought for the Eagles.Â
- BC faced a 17-point deficit at halftime, 36-19.
- Venning continued to control the paint and scored the opening basket for the Eagles.
- With BC seeking a spark on offense midway through the half, Joshua Beadle chipped in with two baskets at the rim. Hand connected on a three-ball shortly after.Â
- Trailing late, Hand picked off a pass and went coast-to-coast for a dunk.Â
- Kany Tchanda recorded his first collegiate points in the final two minutes of action.Â
- Two players finished in double figures for the Eagles: Venning (12) and Hand (10).Â
- Venning, BC's leader in blocks, rejected three shots in the game.
- Chas Kelley III dished a team-high four assists.
- Tonight marked the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs. BC holds a 3-2 edge in the series.Â
- BC holds a 13-13 record vs. teams currently in the SEC.
- The Eagles are 1-1 through two seasons of the ACC/SEC Challenge. Last season, BC soared past Vanderbilt on the road, 80-62, on Nov. 29, 2023.Â
- Boston College opens the ACC regular-season conference slate on the road against Wake Forest this Saturday, Dec. 7, at LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.
- Tip-off is scheduled for noon and the game will air live on ACC Network.Â
