ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Boston College suffered its first loss of the season, dropping an 80-55 decision against VCU at the 11th annual Veterans Classic, held at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Donald Hand Jr. led BC with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds in 32 minutes. Â Roger McFarlane added a double-double, with 11 points and a team-high 11 boards.
BC connected on 29.3% of its shot attempts from the floor (17-58), including 2-of-11 from outside.

- BC and VCU were tied 6-6 at the first media timeout before a 7-0 run by the Rams gave them the lead for good
- The Eagles would cut it to five - 13-8 - on a tip-in by Elijah Strong, but the Rams would tally eight unanswered to build a 13-point advantage (21-8) with 9:46 left in the half.
- Boston College would mount an 8-0 push of its own, capped by a Dion Brown jumper with 6:38 that made it 21-16
- VCU led 33-20 at the break
- VCU pushed its lead to 20 early in the second half as the Eagles struggled to get their shots to fall
- Hand score 15 of his 17 points in the second half
- Luka Toews tallied his first collegiate points, making 3-of-4 from the charity stripe
- Chad Venning logged eight points and a season-high three blocked shots
- Roger McFarlane's double-double was the 17th of his career
- Dion Brown earned his first start of the season, finishing with eight points and five boards in 29 minutes
- Kany Tchanda saw his first action of the season, playing three minutes in the first half
- BC's 17 turnovers were a season-high and the most in a game since committing 21 mishaps on Jan. 30 at Syracuse
- The Eagles are now 0-2 all-time against VCU
- Boston College returns home next week to host Temple on Nov. 15 at Conte Forum
