BC brings in six new student-athletes on National Signing Day
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Softball has announced that six student-athletes have signed their National Letter of Intent to play softball at BC starting in the fall of 2025, according to head coach Amy Kvilhaug. The signing class includes two student-athletes from Massachusetts, one from Florida, one from Texas, one from Pennsylvania, and one from New Jersey.
Joining the Eagles next fall are 1B/OF/DP Mia Galella from Madison Township, Pa., LHP Alyx Rossi from Bedford, Mass., 1B/3B Emma Knight from Yantis, Tex., IF/OF Holly Paharik from Hopkinton, Mass., RHP Sophia Bertorelli from Coral Springs, Fla., and RHP Emily Van Cleef from Hopewell, N.J.
"I am so excited to bring these five wonderful human beings and terrific softball players into the Eagle softball family," said Kvilhaug. "One of the things we pride ourselves on in the recruiting process is identifying student-athletes who don't just fit our positional needs, but fit into the softball and academic culture at BC. This group of young women are committed students, leaders, and softball players. They thrive in challenging environments and love the opportunity they've been provided to study at an elite university that competes in an elite conference (the ACC). This class will continue to raise the bar that many of our current and former players have worked so hard to establish. We expect a great deal of offensive production, athleticism, and versatility from the position players we are bringing in. We are also excited to continue adding depth to the circle. All of these student-athletes have played ball at the highest levels in travel ball and are prepared to step in and compete immediately. We are very excited for their arrival to the Heights in 2025."
Mia Galella, 1B/OF/DP, Madison Township, Pa.
"Mia has a love for the game that is unmatched. She works tirelessly at improving every aspect of her game. I love her mentality - she comes from such a position of positivity and strength. We expect Mia to add significant power to our offense. Defensively she is versatile with the ability to play either 1B or in the outfield."
Alyx Rossi, LHP, Bedford, Mass.
"Alyx comes to us from a few towns over. We are always thrilled when quality pitching wants to stay home and compete in Boston (the city of champions). Alyx continues to grow in strength and maturity. She is extremely coachable and I can't wait to work with her in the bullpen. She's a southpaw who is only going to continue to grow and develop at the next level."
Emma Knight, 1B/3B, Yantis, Tex.
"Emma is known for her strong bat and potential to put up some big offensive numbers, but she will also play a big role defensively for us. She is most at home on the corners which is where we see her, though she does have experience behind the plate. Emma has an extremely high softball IQ coupled with a work ethic and enthusiasm for the game that's second to none."
Holly Paharik, IF/OF, Hopkinton, Mass.
"Holly is a local athlete that has been on the BC radar since she attended camp a few years ago. I instantly noticed her gritty play and high softball IQ. I'm thrilled she will finally be on campus competing for us next year. Holly is a versatile athlete who can play most positions on the field. She is willing to play wherever she's needed."
Sophia Bertorelli, RHP, Coral Springs, Fla.
"Sophia adds depth and a competitive fire to our pitching staff. She is a fierce competitor who wants the ball when the game is on the line. She has really good stuff coupled with solid velocity. We expect her to step in and play a significant role in our future success."
Emily Van Cleef, RHP, Hopewell, N.J.
"Emily embodies everything we are looking for in a BC student-athlete. She takes her academics as seriously as her time on the softball field and is fierce in both areas. She's a proven leader and is going to add strength, athleticism, and competitive fire to the circle. She compliments our staff well and will only continue to grow and develop. She is such a coachable athlete and has the potential to fill a big role for us moving forward."
