CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Former Boston College Baseball player and 1985 inductee to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame Bob DeFelice '63 passed away on October 6 at the age of 82. Remembered as an elite defensive catcher and a career .300 hitter, DeFelice helped the Eagles advance to the College World Series in both 1960 and 1961. During his final two playing seasons in 1962 and 1963, the Eagles continued their success with consecutive trips to the NCAA District I playoffs.
DeFelice continued his playing career after Boston College, spending several years in the Boston Red Sox organization before transitioning to coaching, where he enjoyed a highly-successful career at both the high school and collegiate levels. His coaching experience includes 17 years at Winthrop High School, where he won two Division II Super Bowl Championships, and a long career at Bentley University, where he coached baseball from the program's inception in 1969 through the 2022 season. DeFelice is a member of nine hall of fames, including Boston College and Bentley's Athletic Hall of Fames, the Winthrop High School Hall of Fame, and the Massachusetts High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
DeFelice is survived by his wife Patricia, their four children and seven grandchildren.
